MARK OF THE NINJA 2 WINDOWS
It was released for Windows and Xbox 360 in 2012. Now you have 3 dead guards and one terrified one, simply from dropping the first guard's body into the middle of a room.Mark of the Ninja is a 2D platformer, with a focus on stealth, developed by Klei Entertainment (makers of Don’t Starve and Invisible Inc) and published by Microsoft Studios. A fourth guard in the room nearby hears the gunshots and runs in, sees the third guard's dead body laying next to the door, gets terrified, and blind-fires into the room, killing the first terrified guard. He then blind-fires in the direction of the body, and kills the third guard standing on the opposite side of the room. The best is when you can set up an entire chain, where you kill one guard and use the body to terrify a second guard. Now, instead of raising an alarm, a guard will become terrified when they discover a dead body or witness you kill another guard. But one of the styles takes this and dials it up to 11. This is normally pretty difficult to do, and is reserved for a few niche things. There are certain ways to terrify guards with the other styles, which makes them more jumpy and prone to blind-firing their weapon when they hear a noise/see something suspicious. Others will completely eliminate your ability to kill, (except with environment stuff, like dropping chandeliers,) and instead focus on making you better at ghosting. Some of them will really drastically change your gameplay - Some will focus on eliminating guards. You'll obviously see lots of different paths within the levels, but won't really see the potential in those paths until you have new styles. It really does feel pretty linear until you've started unlocking some things. Instead, the tester killed a guard in another room and carried the body to the laser to turn it off without deactivating the power, since lasers also deactivate when they detect a guard passing through.Īnd seriously, don't give up on the game until you've unlocked at least a few of the extra costumes/styles. So they had several obvious ways to get around/through the door. They had put a power switch in for the laser, and several ways to go around it. IIRC, it was referring to a point where a door was blocked by a laser. A play tester went through the level using tricks we hadn't even thought of ourselves - We simply established the rules, and the tester used those rules to get through the level in a way we hadn't anticipated." In the developer commentary, one of the designers says something along the lines of "this particular area was where I realized we had created something with real potential. Once you start unlocking new gear (and even new styles, which drastically change your gameplay mechanics,) then you'll suddenly have countless ways to get through each level. There are a ton of ways to get through the levels - It feels pretty linear at first, but only because you're locked into your basic gear and skills.
